Mariko is torturing and playing with Nana like an insect while Kouta runs to her to protect her. Mariko temporally looses her vectors, thanks to Nana, and has to be sent back. Nana is fine her “father” finds her and saves her but then you find out Nana’s “father” is really Mariko’s father and he leaves nana and goes with Mariko and then Mariko and her “new” father die and Nana’s is fine

so, asdf…hopefully you just weren’t thinking when you made that last comment. either that or you’re an idiot. in case you weren’t aware, lucy has been ostracized from society since she was born. the one thing in the world that accepted her (the dog) was cruelly beaten before her eyes by some of her tormentors. on top of that, someone who seemed to accept and befriend her (the female student) betrayed her secret TO HER TORMENTORS!!! if you can’t realize the implications of this horrible betrayal and discrimination on a fragile young girl’s mind, i’m not sure you deserve to watch this anime. rant for today is over.

Actually, someone killing your dog,even if it is your only friend and you were betrayed and blah blah blah yada yada yada, doesn’t really justify going on a killing spree. If someone ruined your life, would you kill them and a whole bunch of other people that had little/nothing to do with it? Probably not, because that’s called rage and if you have it, you really need some help. In the end, Lucy didn’t go completely friendless (Kouta), and even then she killed his family too. (Please note how all the other characters are f’d up except Mayu; she seems to be the only normal one and reacts more normally to her sexual abuse.)
By the way, Lillium horribly clashes with the anime (my apologies for not finding anything of religious purity throughout this anime), not to mention the aesthetics of using a Austrian’s paintings with a latin song. It probably would have been better to somehow put the poem Elfenlied in song form (if it hasn’t been done already; I’m not sure) and use that as the opening theme instead of taking it out. It’s make a lot more sense than a song in Latin.
If you guys actually read the manga, or payed close attention to some of the episodes, you would know that the Diclonius get a voice in their head that tells them that they must kill to survive. Lucy was somehow able to block the voice until the dog was killed. She was so shocked that she lost the dog. She wanted vengeance and that was what the voice was able to give. BUt when her trust in Kouta wen they were little was broken, she found out that humans are basically all the same.
I hope it was Lucy behind that door.
By the way, i HATE Mariko!
